The Data Center Infrastructure Management Engineer (DCIM) is responsible for the management and administration of Building Management Systems (BMS’s). Primary responsibilities include oversight of installation, configuration, implementation, commissioning of BMS’s and assisting with any construction/upgrade efforts therein.  Additional duties are to provide system administration tasks for all DCIM systems which are comprised of BMS’s, EPMS’s (Electrical Power Monitoring Systems) and SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition Systems).


The ideal candidate will possess a technology background that enables him/her to undertake the challenges of sophisticated controls platforms and demonstrated an ability to think broadly and strategically in aligning with the larger objectives of the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned

  • Ensure BMS’s are operating as designed to protect the data center and provide meaningful, timely alarms, notifications and reports to end users.
  • Interface with design consultants and BMS vendors to Insure BMS reliability objectives are met for new data center deployments and data center retrofit projects.  Coordinate application deployments and IT infrastructure between the vendor and corporate IT departments.
  • Ensure on-time completion of BMS projects are within budget.
  • Provide tactical leadership to implement enterprise alarming standards at the site level.  Ensure site alarms are delivered to the Operations Support Center (OSC) via QTS standards.  Develop validation program for system alarms to ensure “the right alarm is received by the right person at the right time.”
  • Develop BMS standards for system topology, graphics and functionality between multiple vendors and multiple sites.
  • Perform System Administration on DCIM systems which include:  application/database backups, redundant platform readiness, licenses management, infrastructure coordination for application support, etc.
  • Prepare and maintain DCIM Systems support documentation, test plans and change management records.
  • Engage, lead, and direct vendors via Scope of Work and Requests for Proposals/Information documents.
  • Implement corporate policies procedures and standards to maximize the performance of applications and networks.
  • Maintain positive relationships and communication with staff, management, and customers.
  • Coordinate field work as required including any necessary contractor supervision.
  • Work closely with co-workers, maintenance personnel, project managers, building managers, engineers, and contractors on site-specific projects.
  • Participate in on-call duty; to include providing off-hour emergency support as needed.
  • Development of drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes, cable routing plans and schedules.
  • Performing inspections, and assist in the testing and commissioning of the facility system (as required).
  • Lead maintenance and modification of BMS’s to facilitate more efficient operation.


  • B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other related engineering degrees as well as five (5) years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Five or more years of experience with BMS engineering and implementation in a data center environment.
  • Excellent coordination skills between multiple stakeholders, third-party contractors, consultants and cliental.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and implementing those specifications as they apply the work environment.
  • Familiarity with central chilled water plant systems, Computer Room Air Handling (CRAH) Units and facility operations.
  • Working knowledge of various BMS’s such as Andover Continuum, Automated Logic WebCtrl, Siemens Desigo, etc.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Up to 30% travel required


  • Related engineering degree as well as ten (10) years related experience.
  • Strong theoretical background in Control Theory and the designing of controls systems.
  • Project management, organization and problem solving skills with a drive for results and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience performing commissioning, qualification & change control activities related to BMS including but not limited to HVAC, chiller plants, domestic and process water systems, building automation systems, etc.
  • Experience with configuring and operating SQL database systems.
  • Understanding of basic power calculations on single and 3-phase circuits.


  • Experience with BAC-net, Modbus, TCP/IP configuration, SNMP communication protocols, Active Directory security and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills as well as excellent organization, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and produce engineering documents that may include: Control Drawings, Sequence of Operations, Bill of Materials, Graphical User, Interface requirements, and Functional Specifications.
  • Ability to manage project engineering to determine the scope of work relative to the design intent of the customer needs.
  • Work quickly and independently - applying analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills– to support day-to-day operations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel to other Quality Technology Services facilities may be required.
