The Mechanical Technician - Data Center is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of the mechanical systems at Quality Technology Services. This role will perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all mechanical equipment and assist in other facilities-related processes, including but not limited to maintenance, the development and implementation of procedures, and emergency response. This role will work with the facilities director to develop metrics that show the performance of the mechanical systems, and will regularly submit reports on these indicators. This role will suggest, plan, and implement measures that increase the energy efficiency of the facility.

 

The individuals will be working 12 hour shifts to ensure 24X7 coverage.  This current opening will be a 3rd shift 6 PM - 6 AM (3 days on, 4 days off; alternative weeks 4 days on 3 days off. The typical shift will work Wednesday - Saturday on one week, the alternative week Thursday - Saturday. The role will also likely be on a rotating basis from overnight to days on a quarterly basis. Rotation occurs would be a 6AM-6PM.

RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned

 

  • Perform periodic maintenance and repairs on facility mechanical equipment, including CRAH units, pumps, motors, chillers, cooling towers, pneumatic controls, water treatment, etc.
  • Perform regular walkthroughs of the facility to ensure the proper operation of all facilities-related equipment and systems.
  • Respond to facilities-related emergencies, including HVAC equipment failures, electrical equipment failures, fire alarm response, etc. This includes response to emergencies after-hours and on weekends.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of facilities-related maintenances and construction projects.
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of standard operating procedures and emergency response procedures for facilities-related equipment.
  • Monitor work performed by facilities vendors and contractors
  • Assist other members of the facilities department as needed.
  • Driving, installing, doing maintenance and preventative maintenance, repair, service, troubleshooting, fabrication, cutting and burning
  • Must be able to use all hand power tools, all hand tools including pipe cutting, threading machines and tools associated with the trade
  • Must be able to lift 50 to 75 pounds repetitively
  • Must be able to reach and work overhead, crawl, work bent over, jump, stand for hours and work from ladders and scaffolding 
  • Related computer skills include Auto/Turbo CAD, Windows, Excel, Word etc.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Three or more years data centers mechanical experience or equivalent experience in critical environments

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journeyman level in trade, Technical college degree, Military, or workplace equivalency (5+ years)
  • Current first aid, CPR, AED certifications
  • Experience in operating and minor maintenance of electrical, fire protection and security systems.
  • QTS certification CET Level 1 certification or equivalent
  • Mechanical courses and hands-on training, CET Level 1 courses in year 1.
