The Enterprise Systems Architect is responsible for architecture, design, development, planning, implementation, maintenance and management of QTS’s virtual and physical IT architecture models and their lower level components.  Primary responsibilities include: managing the technical roadmap for Software, Tools, and Applications for the Cloud, Systems, and Virtual platforms for the QTS cloud and managed hosting solutions; evaluation and recommendation of Software, Tools, and Applications used to monitor and manage cloud/networking systems and technologies; optimization of configuration, deployment and support of geographically distributed infrastructures; contributing to and leading the architecture and design for large customer solutions; investigation and resolution of escalated client support incidents.  Members of the QTS team are highly engaged with a focus on delivering services within agreed upon scope and schedule and ensuring client satisfaction upon engagement startup. Demonstrated commitment to growth, service provider certifications and continued technical development is expected, including behavior and actions that exemplify the QTS Customer Creed.

 

The ideal candidate has an extensive technology background and large-scale global project deployment experience in Software Development, various Programming Languages and Tools, Network Management, Data Center architectures, Software Defined Architectures, Cloud and Virtualization as well as underlying service management and operational support experience for Cloud and Network Systems Management.  There will be significant interfacing required with customers and potential customers on the QTS differentiators for Cloud Infrastructure Services, so excellent communications and presentation skills are essential.  In addition, this positions will be a technical lead for senior cloud monitoring and systems engineers indirectly, across multiple technologies, including servers, server load balancers, switches, storage arrays, virtual switches and routers with a strong focus on virtualization, compute, and storage. 

RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned

  • Lead the development of the Enterprise Software Architectures Roadmap for the next generation QTS cloud infrastructure monitoring/management, to include strategy on Private, Public, Hybrid, and Hosted Private Cloud technologies for customer and QTS data centers, as well as technology strategy for implementing related technology mitigations at each site. 
  • Propose standards for visibility and monitoring customer cloud implementations, including policies for shared vs. dedicated hardware/software. 
  • Contributes to and manages the short, mid, and long-term cloud monitoring and management technology roadmap, including alignment with Product, Sales, and Operations roadmaps
  • Own and manages the Enterprise Monitoring Tools, documentation, reporting, and planning for the Architecture, Engineering, and Operations teams.
  • Partners with internal stakeholders from Product Development, Sales, Sales Engineering, Operations, and Customer Service and Support to align monitoring priorities and activities
  • Performs analysis and makes recommendations on monitoring and managing cloud infrastructure orchestration and automation as it pertains to the Virtualization, Compute, Datacenter, and Software Defined Networking (SDN).
  • Assists with planning, scheduling and implementing client improvements and expansions
  • Serves as a critical resource to coordinate cloud infrastructure and systems resources and activities on tiger-teams and during customer-impacting infrastructure and systems events
  • Monitors and reviews the deployment of services, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving cloud services and metrics 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent experience 
  • Five or more years of cloud, infrastructure, and systems technology experience, with at least five years dedicated responsibility for Information Technology operational support
  • Strong knowledge of Information Technology-related frameworks, standards and best practices 
  • Must have experience in automation, orchestration, and other network tools
  • Demonstrated history of enterprise applications and IT engineering and support in multi-site environments 
  • Prior experience leading and or managing multiple, complex, short term projects and incidents simultaneously
  • Design, implementation and operational experience with Enterprise/carrier-class software, tools, and applications used to manage, monitor, and report in a service-oriented architecture (SOA)
  • Extensive experience in various programming and scripting languages to include Python, SQL, Java, JavaScript, Perl, and others relevant to Enterprise and IT Operations and Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in virtualization, compute, storage and other data center technologies (VMware, Cisco, EMC/Dell, and Nutanix preferred)
  • Familiarity with various Network Management Platforms to include CA Spectrum, Splunk, and other comparable Tools and Applications.
  • Familiarity with Load Balancers and operational experience across multiple vendors; preferably F5 and emerging SSD alternatives 
  • Familiar with network and network security features and protocols (IP, IPv6, ACLs, VPN, L2VPN, L3VPN, IPSEC, GRE) with a focus on Cisco, Arista, Palo Alto Networks, and Juniper platforms 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • Experience in large Data Center, ISP, MSP, and/or Service Provider environments
  • Familiarity with VMware vCloud Director, NSX, vSphere, Log Sight, vRealize Operations Manager
  • Linux, Microsoft MCSD & MTA specifically, Red Hat, and other industry certifications
  • AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure experience

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are essential as this role is customer facing and has significant management visibility and influence
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are highly valued and required
