The Critical Environment Technician (CE Technician) is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping equipment, machinery and controls located in the interior and exterior of building.  This role monitors operations and conducts a routine and ongoing assessment of the building systems operations and performance. This role performs tests, rounds and analyzes data to ensure the proper functioning of departmental equipment. 

 

 

Level of CET I or CET II will be determined at time of offer dependent on experience and competency level.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned

 

 

  • Monitor and control daily service ticket activity, customer calls, and service levels.
  • Exceptional customer service
  • Resolving technical problems with hardware, software and connectivity.
  • Email Management
  • Ability to manage complex situations during off management hours - single point of contact
  • Troubleshooting customer issues while maintaining agreed upon service levels for customer contact and resolve
  • Perform miscellaneous warehouse related tasks
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Adherence to assigned schedule
  • Adhering to documented policies, procedures and processes both QTS internal and customer specific.
  • Able to function in a team environment
  • Maintain knowledge levels as industry enhancements occur
  • Continuous improvement of service delivery.
  • Continually maintain data integrity
  • Record, manage, and maintain an accurate physical hardware inventory
  • Perform physical hardware audits
  • Perform hardware warranty / RMA requests
  • Coordinate deliveries and transport requests
  • Perform physical material packaging and shipping
  • Sr. level technicians may have team lead responsibilities.
  • Maintain Order to Cash inventory levels 
  • Manage and perform all critical and non-critical processes/maintenances and participate in predictive maintenances
  • Manage third party vendors within the data center to ensure compliancy, specifications and quality standards
  • Perform and execute necessary rounds throughout Data center as directed.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (not an all inclusive list)

  • Mechanical Theory - Central plant, centrifugal, chilled water, boilers
  • Air Distribution equipment, including air handlers, CAHU, CRAC, and Package units, heat pumps
  • Skills - Chiller systems 100 to 2500 tons, CRAC’S 20-60 tons and package split systems 2-100 tons
  • Skills - valves, variable speed equipment, dehumidification, compressors, condensers, coils, bearings, drives, gears
  • Skills - refrigeration, pressure gauges, vacuum pumps, reclaim units, piping
  • Water Systems Infrastructure - thermal storage, pumps, valves
  • Skills - water treatment, cooling towers, water filtration systems
  • Control Systems - BMS, VAVs, controllers
  • CFD modeling, sensor and SLA understanding
  • Emergency System Infrastructure
  • Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP), mock drills and adherence
  • Change Management Process
  • Computerize Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Inventory management - including shop maintenance, inventory controls
  • Provisioning Process
  • BAS/BMS Product Software
  • Procurement Process - Reqlogic
  • Method of Procedures (MOPs)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Technical college degree, Military, or workplace equivalency (2+ years)
  • One or more years' of experience in a data center or similiar critical facility (Navy Nuclear, hospital etc)
  • Currently involved in apprenticeship subject area: Electrical, Mechanical, CPR, AED.
  • CE Technician I or II Certifications to be completed within six to twelve months upon hire

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three to five years' of experience in a data center or similiar critical facility (Navy Nuclear, hospital etc)
